SEO Contests vs Day to Day SEO

Search engine optimization or SEO as it is widely known as to those in the internet marketing business, is the art of making a web site attractive to search engines. The result of having a site that is attractive to search engines is having the web site rank well for a given key word or key phrase.

In an SEO Contest, the execution of the art becomes slightly skewed. For instance, the first rule of SEO should be to build your site for the people and not for the search engines. However, the contest environment is vastly different. For one thing, SEO Contests are short lived. You are aiming for short term results quickly, the tactics you might use could end up getting you penalized by engines such as Google in the long term but can be beneficial for a contest lasting only a few months.

One such tactic is keyword stuffing. For instance, in the ambatchdotcom seocontest the top 3 contestants average keyword density is 50% of the title, 3% of the body, 8% in H tags, 15% in links. On the other hand, the top ranking site in Google for the key phrase "SEO Strategy" has 0% in the title, .2% in the body, 0% in H tags and 2.3% in links.

Clearly keyword density does not matter much in the long run but to achieve quick results, it is one of the tactics used in contests.

Obtaining links from other websites (backlinks) is THE first line tactic used to rank your website high in the search results. Typically one would attempt to obtain links from related web sites using a variety of anchor texts with target keywords. It is also desirable to "deep link" to internal pages and not just links to your main page.

In an SEO contest, participants are more likely to stick to using only the target keyphrase for their anchor text and they are also more likely to link solely to the main page of the site as well. In the long term, sites with better and more varied backlinks would quickly over take these contest sites in the search engine results.

Finally, in the backlink equation is relevancy. It's not very difficult in normal circumstances to find a site that is related to your target keyword. If your content is valuable, over time you will obtain organic links, that is, other webmasters will voluntarily link to your site as a resource. You can also trade links with sites sharing your theme and even buy links on related sites. In an SEO contest, finding a related site is difficult because the keyword or key phrase doesn't typically exist therefore relevancy is non existent.

So in SEO contests it becomes a matter of quantity and quality rather than relevance of the links. Participants in the ambatchdotcom seocontest have backlinks from every imaginable type of site and as long as Google doesn't catch up with the contest, and make it's determination of what is relevant, it's likely that relevancy wont be an issue.

In conclusion, while the same strategies exist for day to day SEO and SEO contests, some strategies weigh more heavily and that is due to the duration of the contest. Web sites should be built for people first and then fine tuned for search engines. Webmasters must never loose sight of this all important fact. The bottom line is that no matter how high your site ranks in the search engine results, if it doesn't attract a visitor and does not contain content worth reading then your visitors will not stay and they will not return. That is real world SEO.

Google AdWords - Earn Money on the Internet From Your Campaign

Earning money on the internet often means advertising. When it comes to return on investment, pay per click advertising is one of the most effective methods to generate traffic to your website. Frequently, those who click on pay per click ads are in the buying rather than browsing category. There are numerous pay per click platforms out there, but Google AdWords is the most popular.

Why use pay per click? If your are not showing up for some important keywords or if your site is entirely commercial and offers little or no content then pay per click is an advertising model that you may want to consider.

Google AdWords enables advertisers to place their ads in the right hand column of search results, instead of offering placement in the organic search engine results. It allows work at home sellers to reach their target market in other networks (search networks) such as Ask.com, AOL, and Netscape.

While Google AdWords is a handy tool for marketers who want to increase their conversion rate, like all tools, it has to be used properly if it is to be effective. You need to manage your ad campaign carefully if you want success with Google AdWords. This means carefully paying attention to the following elements.

Keyword Selection: You want to choose relevant keywords that your buyer might use but they also have to accurately reflect your website's offer. As a general rule, it is recommended that you avoid using broad or vague keywords.

For instance, if you sell skiing equipment avoid the keyword "skiing." These types of keywords will not help you earn money on the internet or working online, because users who search with these types of keywords are in the browsing phase. You want to attract serious buyers. Thus, keyword phrases and keyword variations such as "red skiing outfit" or "red skiing outfits" will be more effective.

Proper keyword selection requires research. There are quite a few keyword research tools available. Most work from home marketers use nichebot.com which charges a monthly fee and Keyword Elite which only charges a one time fee.

Keyword bidding: Bidding can get out hand, when it comes to Google AdWords. You need to carefully consider your budget and your business goal. Believe it or not bidding on the top spot can hurt your campaign more than help it.

Studies show that internet users click the number one spot out of impulse not necessarily because they are interested in your offer. So while you may receive a great deal of visitors you're not receiving quality visitors that is-people who want to buy. The third, forth or even fifth position are more effective if you want to earn money on the internet or working online.

Writing ad copies for selected keywords: Your ad has to be compelling and clearly spell out the benefits of visiting your site. You only get a few seconds to convince someone to click on your ad so make sure your ad is concise, avoids repetition and identifies what is unique about your offer.

Google AdWords can greatly improve your conversion rate, if you take the time to research relevant keywords for your site and write an ad copy that entices the reader to click on your ad.

Lucrative Article Marketing - Discover 5 Reliable Ways to Multiply Your Article Marketing

Article marketing is one type of online advertising that uses articles which are directly related to the products or business that is being promoted. Currently, this is one of the most used marketing methods by most webmasters.

Here are the 5 reliable ways to multiply your articles marketing:

1. Write more. The quantity of your articles plays a crucial role in the success of your article marketing campaign. The more you submit, the more quality inbound links you will obtain for your website. The more links, the better you will rank on search engines. The better your search engine ranking, the greater your chances of getting qualified traffic.

2. Increase your clickthrough rate. How? By simply giving your articles attention-grabbing titles to effectively entice online users to open and read your content. It would also help if you can make your titles keyword-rich so they can easily be found online.

3. Choose topics that your readers can easily relate to. Talk about their problems, aspirations, goals, and interests. Then present solutions or information that can either help them get out of their current situation or improve the quality of their lives.

4. Don't be too self-critical. Don't be afraid if other people criticize the quality of your writing. It's a process that will help you produce better articles in the future. Don't let that hold you back, instead use the feedback or comments that you receive to better improve your craft.

5. Your articles should sound professional. If you want your potential readers to believe everything you say and subsequently follow your recommendations, your articles should sound credible and professional. Give your readers no-nonsense ideas to show them that you are really an expert on your field.

The Importance of ICRA or Safesurf Tags in an Optimised Webpage

The debate has raged for years as to whether a designated 'safe site' free of adult content will be ranked higher than one without such tags.

We've tested this theory many times over the last two years and have definitely noticed a substantial improvement to ranking for the pages with Child-Safe tags.

On average we noticed anything from two to three page jumps for those with the tags. When we removed them they didn't slump as much, but certainly lost a number of ranking positions.

Our specific focus has been Google and Live.com, both of whom seem to respond similarly to the tags.

As with any guaranteed safe content site, it is important to be careful that you stick to the rules...ie. variable uncontrolled content e.g. chat rooms and forums, no nudity, profanity etc, etc. Although Safety sites will allow you to tag with partial 'adult' content, our experiments did not include sites with any of the above.

For sites that are already on page one under a specific search term, a one to two page position improvement was noticed.

We did not notice any improvement in ranking when using several of the approved bodies tags, so there seems little point in bothering with more than one for each site.

It is normally expected to put the tags on every page of a site, but of course, with an existing large site, this can be rather time consuming. We haven't found any noticeably detrimental effects from only including the tags on the index page. It is certainly something that could be done when time permits, but our strategy has been to start with the index page as quickly as possible and worry about the other pages later on.

Note: The author does not advocate using the tags in a cavalier fashion, (i.e. merely as an SEO tool) out of respect for the bodies involved.

As with all SEO tactics, there will be many who disagree with this as a worthwhile technique, but my point is - what harm can it do?

Provided, of course, that the site does not include adult content such as that mentioned above, there is very little work to do to get the site approved by one of the safety bodies. Webmasters generally self-assert that the content conforms to the standards required.

Just a word of caution, though - occasionally the auto code generators on the ICRA site have not produced clean results when pasted into an xhtml site. It is always best to take a careful look at it and maybe use the W3C Validator service to check for problems.

Of course, the usual combination of good coding, meta information, carefully selected keywords, back-links with good PR and lots of targeted fresh page content are always going to be required.

The Benefits of Organic SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

If you're going to sell any type of product or service online, you're eventually going to have to optimize your Web site for the Search Engines, in order to boost traffic and sales.

Many years ago, it was quite easy to draw effective traffic, as a good content-driven site, with good products, was enough to get a Web site ranked highly in the Search Engines. The competition has increased one thousand times over since then, with billions of Web sites existing online now, making for some very stiff competition in the area of Search Engine placement and rankings.

This increase in competition has given rise to many different styles, and many different methods of Web site optimization. Optimization is simply the method of making a Web site "Search Engine friendly", by using methods of enhancement that will increase rankings and placement by placing the Web site higher in the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages).

Everything from software to increase rankings and placement, to Search Engine Management and Marketing Firms exist, with many online merchants becoming confused about what or "whom" to use and how to effectively use the various services to increase rankings and placement.

The real battle seems to exist between those that favor "Organic SEO" as opposed to those that prefer "Non-Organic SEO". The term organic itself is defined by Webster's Dictionary as: instrumental; acting as instruments of nature or of art to a certain destined function or end (Webster's: 1913: 3).

Organic SEO, also called Natural SEO, is the most time consuming, and the most tedious method of optimization for placement and rankings. However, it is prone to longevity of results, as it has a focus on content, meta-tag enhancement using proper descriptions, keyword enhanced copy within the appropriate specified densities of the Search Engines, and link exchanges. In addition, keyword dense reports, articles, and other content materials are usually added in a routine fashion to a site to maintain the densities necessary and increase rankings and placement.

Organic SEO, if done properly in a step-by-step approach, can literally promote increased traffic and rankings for years. It can also contain overall marketing costs, as the use of PPC (Pay Per Click), is not needed as much with this method. The main drawbacks with this type of SEO, however, are the length of time it takes to properly implement all the steps necessary, and the length of time it takes the Search Engines to thoroughly spider and index a site that has implemented Organic SEO.

Non-Organic SEO, also called Artificial SEO, can take many forms, and can use some Organic SEO coupled with other techniques. These techniques can include software generated keyword enhanced pages, some methods of re-directs, whereby traffic is shunted off from other sites, with their permissions, and software generated doorway pages and meta-tag descriptions. There are many different techniques that can be employed including rather controversial ones such as hidden text loaded with keywords, and tiny text.

Overall, Non-Organic SEO methods are quite popular, as it is a much quicker means to rankings and placement. Links might be purchased from "link farms" which are simply services that specialize in the promotion of links to others.

Although Non-Organic SEO can speed up rankings and placement initially, care needs to be given when using any of these methods. If keyword dense pages are automatically generated en masse, the Search Engines might view large sites, with large numbers of such pages as "Search Engine Spammers" and a risk of being banned does exist. In addition, pages may initially place very high, only to drop lower rather quickly, as the Search Engines still place a great emphasis on good content, which is not usually the focus of the Non-Organic type of SEO.

All in all, it really depends upon the overall purpose of a site, and the longevity of results desired by a Web master/site owner. It also depends upon how quickly results and sales are needed. For some seasonal sites, such as holiday-theme sites that only remain up for a few weeks or months, then the quicker method of Non-Organic SEO can be quite effective. On the other hand, if a Web master/site owner promotes a product or service to which they are committed for years, or perhaps a lifetime, then Organic SEO would definitely be the better choice of optimization method.

No matter which type of SEO methods are chosen or implemented, an ongoing campaign of optimization does need to exist, as the parameters that are used for the rankings and placement by the Search Engines, change frequently, and research into current methods needs to be done routinely.

As the old saying goes, "Different strokes for different folks", really applies to Search Engine Optimization and rankings and placement. The whole Search Engine Optimization process is really more art than science, and continues to change daily.

Article Marketing and Website Traffic

Article marketing is an ideal way to improve your website traffic without expending too much energy. All you need do is to write a few decent articles, and your traffic will increase significantly.

The writing must be relevant to the topic or niche of your website, or at least the page that you intend to direct traffic towards. That is one tremendous advantage that article marketing has over most other traffic building programs: you can direct the traffic to whatever page on your site you wish.

This is done by means of your authors resource box, that is an area set aside by most article directories for a few words about yourself and a link or two back to your website. That link need not be only to your home page, but can be to any page on your site that you choose. The page you choose, however, must be relevant to the article you have written. You dont send a reader to a page on octopi if you have just written an article about giant squid or turtles.

One mistake that many authors make is to fail to understand what is allowed in the resource box, sometimes called a bio. Some allow HTML and others dont. Some allow links and others dont. If you are not allowed a link to your site then there is little point in providing a directory with a free article. Dont use these sites, and there are several of those that I have come across. Some directories do not provide a resource box, but allow you to add a few words with your url at the end of the article.

It doesnt matter, as long as you are allowed to provide a link back to your website. You then get a one way link to your site, but even better in many cases, you also get traffic from people that like your writing and click on your link to visit your website for more information. Depending on the topic of your article, and how you submit it, that can be a massive short-term jump, or a steady stream over a longer period. The ideal is a combination of each, but that depends on your submission strategy and how many versions of your article you submit.

The versions matter, because if you can produce a few versions and submit different versions to different groups of directories, then you will get better results. That is because after a while, the search engines will begin to detect that a number of article directories, and other websites, have the same content (your article). They will then begin to drop some of these from their listings as being less relevant, and this will continue theoretically until there is only one directory or site with your article on it.

So make the best of it and submit it to as many article directories as possible for a quick burst of traffic, then write others to keep it going. Rather than write four versions of your article for four sets of different search engines, you are better writing four articles, each to be sent to all the search engines. That works better because I have tested it.

Article marketing can be used to increase your website traffic, but you can maximise that increase if you use the directories and your articles intelligently.

Profitable Article Marketing - 4 Great Steps to Breakthrough with Article Marketing

In growing your business online, it is important that you know how to establish your expertise online so people will trust you and consider you as an authority on your chosen niche. As you know, people will only transact with marketers they like and trust. One of the best ways to communicate and impart your knowledge is by writing and syndicating your articles online.

Here are the 4 great steps to breakthrough with article marketing:

1. Consider your target market. Always keep your potential clients in mind when writing your articles. Make sure that every information you share is useful to their pressing issues or areas of interest. When you are able to address their needs, you will easily build rapport and trust with them that can lead to fruitful business relationship.

2. Write more. In article marketing, it is important that you are able to produce more articles to strengthen your online presence, make your readers feel that you have so much information to offer, and generate more inbound links for your website.

3. Offer only quality articles. People gauge your professionalism and expertise based on how well you write your articles. If they contain blatant grammar errors and too many misspellings, you can be assured that your future articles will be ignored. Avoid that from happening by making sure that all your articles are well-written and free from any kind of errors before your post them online.

4. Write a compelling resource box. Increase your conversation rate by making sure that your resource box is enticing, compelling, and attention-grabbing. Include your name, your expertise, the problems you solve, some achievements, and your website's URL. It would also help if you can offer incentives like free ebooks or free articles to anyone who visits your website.

4 Article Marketing Mistakes you Should Always Avoid

Even though article marketing is one of the easiest methods of driving powerful traffic to your website, it is also very easy to do it the wrong way. The funny thing is that these mistakes are done by beginners and experienced article marketers. By avoiding these 4 mistakes, you will in turn create a very successful article marketing campaign.

Don't write boring headlines. Your headline is the entry point of all articles. What ever your headline says will be the ultimate reason for why should or should not click on it on order to read more. So think about it; if your headline has no sizzle to it, why on earth should the reader want to read further. Readers are people. A major part of what drives a person to take a certain action is their emotions. Give them something to be emotional about.

Don't write a headline that only contains the most generic keyword phrase. For example, if you were to write an article about the general issues of dog training, don't use the keyword phrase "dog training". Yes, you might get quite a lot of readers clicking to read further, but you will find that the click through ratio on the link pointing to your site in the bio area will be very low.

Also, the few readers that do enter your site will be hard to sell to. Why? Because you have no idea what they are looking for. All you know is that they entered your site because of the keyword phrase "dog training". The problem is that you don't know what exactly they want in the niche of dog training. They could be interested in "how to train my dog", or "how to teach dog training". We can go on forever.

Don't write on a subject that has nothing to do with the headline. The reader is looking for an answer or a solution. Don't betray the reader by not giving them what they want. If you do that, you will just annoy your "would be" prospect, and the only high click-through ratio that you will get from the reader is on the "back" button.

Reframe from writing "ego" and "written by " bio lines in the bio area of your article. This will not do anything for your click-through ratio on the link the points to your website. Instead, use your bio area to sell your website and product. Tell them to click on your link. Let them know why they should click on the link by giving your readers a list of benefits. This is the only area in your article where you are allowed to actually promote your website and product. So, why not use it well.

Profitable Article Marketing - Announcing 4 Challenging Secrets to Grow Your Article Marketing

Article marketing is perhaps the easiest yet most powerful traffic-generating and marketing tool in this day and age. Millions of marketers and bloggers are using this technique not only to drive quality traffic to their websites but also to establish their knowledge and expertise on their chosen niche.

Here are the 4 challenging secrets to grow your article marketing:

1. Get the attention of online users - at all cost. By this, I mean be desperate for attention. You need to get more people to read your articles to increase their chances of being read and republished to effectively augment your quality inbound links. You can easily do this by using powerful and attention-grabbing titles that are direct to the point, keyword-rich, short, and communicate the benefits that your articles can offer.

2. Deliver new information. Steer clear from re-writing existing articles online and research for new topics that will interest your potential audience. Strive to give them something fresh or information that are seldom discussed on the web. This will add more value to your content that will boost your expert status online.

3. Write simply. If you want to easily create a name online, you need to make sure that you write to inform your readers and not to impress them. Forget your love for big words and strive to make it simple and easier for your readers to get the points you are trying to get across. Stick with simple terms and easy to understand writing format.

4. Take advantage of major article submission sites. Your goal in publishing your articles online is to give them enough exposure to effectively reach your target market. That is why, it is important that you carefully choose the publishing sites where you will post your articles. Stick with those which have great page ranking and steady traffic and don't waste your time on sites that are not even indexed by Google.

8 Steps to Make Money with Article Marketing

Fast article marketing is becoming a popular way for people to make money, and to increase hits on websites as well. For instance, many people write about their businesses, which attracts people to the website, but they can also sell the articles. Here are 8 steps to a fast article marketing strategy.

Step 1: Plan Your Words
You want to have as many people as possible want to read your article. Use common terms, explain what people may not know, and write well.

Step 2: Plan Your Article
Each article has a beginning, middle, and end. Many writers will write the middle first, then write two summaries, one for the beginning and one for the end. This follows the Introduction-Body-Conclusion format and is quickly done.

Step 3: Use Keywords Where Appropriate
If there is going to be any search engine action involved for your article, key your keywords in. Go for about 2-3% concentration.

Step 4: Finding Markets
You can either search the internet or get a membership to publications like Writers Market. The Writers Market is now in online form as well, ad searchable. Fast article marketing is much easier this way.

Step 5: Making Contact
Unless their guidelines say otherwise, always send a letter to the website or publication asking if they are interested in your article. Get information on how to write a good query letter.

Step 6: Write Well
If you just dont write very well, hire the work to be ghost-written. Just make sure its done right.

Step 7: Make Your Deadlines
If your fast article marketing has been successful and someone wants to buy your article, get it to them when you say you will.

Step 8: Follow Up
If you intend to make a living at fast article marketing, always remember to follow up with your clientele and pitch new ideas--one at a time.

Dig for Gold with Your Pen

What would you say if I told you that the piazzas of the Internet are paved with gold? You'd think I was another snake-oil salesman right? But, it's true! And in the most unlikely waywriting articles!!

Except for a few eccentrics, most people think that writing anything is really hard work. They picture the school essays they hated or the tortured soul in her attic struggling by the light of a candle! But, that's all rubbish!

What folks never realize is that the heavy lifting has already been done by others. You don't need to come up with original content off the top of your head. You just need to look for what's already out there and improve' on it. Every topic you can think of has been covered and written on by someone. But, most of the time, these folk do it for the fun of it, which is headline newsfor you.

Now don't mistake me. You mustn't steal these folk's hard work, (you wouldn't want to anyway; you don't want to be sued or banned) but no one can stop you picking up the ideas and creating your own take' on the facts. It's what academics call research!! In a world of browsers and huge repositories of information, anyone at all can become enough of an expert in any subject to write a 750 word article on it in minutesif you know where to look.

Here's how you do it.

Step One: Generating Ideasstart from the end

Remember, you're in business. The article has to serve a business purpose. So the first step is to find a product you want to sell. If you don't have a product already, use standard affiliate thinking and find one with a reliable supplier and a good dollar commission.

Step Two: Find the content

Say you selected fly rods. Then your article needs to relate directly to fly fishing. Go directly to the source of the Internet's content. Online bulletin boards, FAQ pages and Article directories! Try

http://www.groups.google.com

http://www.goarticles.com

http://www.faq.org

Everything you could ever want to know about nearly every subject on earth you can find there, and it's free if you're willing to dig for it.

Now, you're writing a 750 word article (this is the ideal length). You need an introduction, 3 or 4 points and a short conclusion. And, as a beginner, always try to give your readers information they can instantly use and implement. So you go through the content until you have filled your needs.

Let's take an example. You're writing about fly fishing. Well, go to Groups.google.com and see what themes people discuss about fly fishing techniques, fishing spots, fishing vacations, tying flies, equipment, and so on. Pick one and tilt it to relate it to fly rods. E.g. Cane versus carbon fiber in different fishing conditions, fly lines and different weight rods, laying a fly in tight conditions needs a particular type of rodthen conclude with suggestions on where to access suitable equipment; you'll get the idea.

Now go to Goarticles.com and type in fly fishing and see what articles are already written and how many people have viewed them so you can tell which article topics are the most popular. Always write on popular themes!

Then go to FAQ.org and look there for fly fishing Frequently Asked Questions on the selected theme and find content to flesh out the article.

You'll now have more content than you would have believed possible.

Step Three: Write the Article

Write as you would talk. Imagine the reader is across the table from you and tell them a story! People love stories. Personalize it if you can.

Step Four: Create a Snappy Headline

The most important part to your article is your article title; it will make or break your article. People browse headlines just like you do! So you need something that talks to their problem/fear/desires and promises a solution.

It you're writing about babies and colic, you need something like: "7 Tricks for Surviving a Baby with Colic!" Ok, that's not perfect but you get the idea.

Step Five: Edit Your Article Look Professional

The #1 reason why most articles don't get published (behind not following posting guidelines) is spelling errors. You simply must proof read and spell check. Even if you don't have a spell checker program on your computer, there are plenty of free web based ones.

If you are having trouble with one or two words, why not try

http://www.dictionary.com

Read the article out loud to someone does it flow? Does it make sense? There is nothing worse than an article that doesn't make sense, people and publishers find it profoundly irritating.

That's it!

No deep secret. Writing is a step-by-step process anyone can do it.

The Secret to Article Success

I am frequently asked what's the one secret to achieving success in marketing articles for income. In a word... Write. In another word... Submit. That's pretty much it. Of course there are some details that you need along the way: a proper Resource Box, a great title, and a few other details. But, for the mot part, you need to write and submit.

On days when I'm very busy, I'll write just one or two articles and I'll submit them to my entire list of article submission sites, about 150. On days when I have more time, I write four to five articles and submit to a list of about forty sites. On my best days, I'll crank out ten or more articles and submit them to my top 10 sites. I'd like to submit them to more sites, but I just don't have the time.

It takes two or three hours to submit an article to my large 150 site list. I can make a submission to my 50 site list in about an hour. And I can submit an article to the short 10 site list in about ten or twelve minutes.

By submitting an article to 50 sites, you can expect to get between 100 and 200 links over a six-month period. I'm quite happy with that. That's one of the reasons that I continue to write articles. The other reason is that I'm rather fond of money. That part's not too bad either.

Most of the time, the people that ask me about the secret of success are what I call casual writers. They've written five or ten articles and submitted each one to one or two sites. They can't believe it but, they didn't make any money and they've seen no increased traffic. In their mind, article marketing doesn't work.

To be really successful writing articles, I'm talking about 6 figure successful, you need to write about 1000 articles per year. That's three a day, every day!

For those of you who are into proverbs, I run my article business according to an old saying: "Work for a while like nobody will, live the rest of your life like nobody can!" So get to work, write a few articles!

Finding Profitable Keyword Phrases

So you have a site concept developed that you are ready to start writing great content for.

So what's the next step?

It's time to develop your " master keyword list " which you will use to craft your WebPages. These are the words or phrases you would like to get ranked high in the search engine's for and get the free targeted traffic that this will bring to your website.

It is not enough to simply "pluck" words from the air and start writing your web pages. You need to carefully select which words and phrases to target.

Food for thought:

--------------------------------------------------------

What if there are already 10 billion web pages about your chosen keyword(s)?

--------------------------------------------------------

Do you think a small business owner can compete with large companies who invest millions of dollars into their SEO strategies for highly competitive, high traffic keywords?

Obviously the answer is no but there is a bright side to the equation if you are willing to invest time into researching your keyword phrases carefully. You will want to choose "niche" keywords that offer a combination of high traffic and low competition.

This of course is easier said than done but it can be accomplished as long as you use some of the help that is available on the internet.

Here are a couple of first steps, tips and tools you can use to put together a list of niche keywords for the website topic that you have developed.

1. Keyword Brainstorming and Research

Think of throwing out a "wide net" here and try to write down as many keywords and phrases (consisting of 2-4 words) that are related to your Website Concept as you can.

Take each one of these words/phrases and visit: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

Type the first keyword phrase into the " Get suggestions for :" box and hit the search button.

This will return you a list of words and phrases that are similiar to your keyword phrase and also provide you with the number of searches for each of these results on the Yahoo-Overture network for the month.

Copy all of the keyword phrases that you think best suit your site concept along with the search data into a text file or spreadsheet. Save this file as your " master keyword list ".

Note: Some of the results will be totally unrelated to your site concept you do not need to copy these into your "master keyword list".

Repeat this process for all of the keyword phrases that you initially brainstormed. By the end of this process you should have a "master keyword list" of several hundred or thousand words and phrases.

Google provides a free keyword research tool as well but does not provide the search statistics that Yahoo-Overture does. Augment your keyword list with any results that you find relevant using this tool. http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox

2. Refine Your Keyword List Part 1

You need to shorten your keyword list to a tightly targeted and highly profitable subset of your master keyword list. These are going to be the words you use when crafting your web pages for the search engines.

Start by performing searches for each keyword phrase in your master keyword list at: http://www.google.com

Google will tell you the total number of sites it has indexed for the keyword phrase that you are searching for. Copy this number into your master keyword list for each keyword phrase.

You will now have the data for the number of searches on the Yahoo-Overture network for the month and the number of competing websites for each keyword phrase in your list.

Think of these numbers as supply(websites) and demand(# of searches) . Finding the supply/demand number for each keyword phrase will help you decide which one's you want to target.

You will have to use your own judgement here depending on your goals and the amount of traffic you would like to generate. Make sure you have a nice mix high traffic and niche keyword phrases in your master keyword list.

It's not that useful to be ranked #1 for a keyword that only gets 5 searches a month. Similiarly, it is very hard to achieve high rankings for high traffic keyphrases because there is going to be a lot of competition.

Trim your keyword phrase list down to 50-100 entries and get ready for step 3.

3. Analyze the Competitor's Backlinks

There are 3 purposes to this analysis: analyzing whether a chosen keyword space is too competitive, identifying potential link partners (to be used in a later lesson), and to trim your "master keyword list" down to 15-20 keywords that have a reasonable level of competition.

To get started take the first term in your master keyword list and perform a search for it at: http://www.google.com

--------------------------------------------------------

Note: we are only going to be interested in the "top 10" results for each keyword phrase since our goal is to get listed on the first page of results for our target keywords.

--------------------------------------------------------

Our goal from this analysis is to find out how "established" your competition is in your chosen keyword marketplace. An analysis of the number of sites that link to your competitor should give you an initial indicator of how important their website is to the world. If a lot of websites are linking to your competitor they must be providing valuable content or a useful tool/service.

To find out who is linking to your competitor visit: http://www.uptimebot.com and enter the first domain from the Google Search results into uptimebot's search bar.

Uptimebot will then query all of the major search engine's and return a report showing the number of links the domain has pointing to it. A site with a lot of backlinks to it must be an information hub and therefore very important.

Perform this uptimebot search for all of the "top 10" competitors from your initial Google search results.

If you are finding that the sites in the search results have several 1000 backlinks to them you will know right away that you are going to have a hard time getting a high ranking for that keyword since a large number of links suggests that the site is already a well established information hub in that keyword marketplace.

Uptimebot also provides you with a link to the search results showing you the actual websites that are linking back to your competitor. Visit as many of these sites as you can and try to identify which ones have complimentary content to your site. You may want to consider contacting the owner's of those domains to request a link to your site.

4. Refine Your Keyword List Part 2

After performing this analysis for each keyword phrase in your master keyword list eliminate the keywords that you identify as having too much competition (i.e. too many well established "hubs"). We will use this list in the next lesson to start writing your first web page

Using these tips you should now be able to tell which market's you will be able to compete in and which one's already have too many established information hubs to make it worth your while. You will also have a list of "complimentary" websites that you may want to consider requesting links from in the future to help boost your website's "link popularity".

Testing And Tracking For Article Marketing Success

This particular area of article marketing has probably had more to do with my success in article marketing than anything else that I have done. I am a particular avid tester, and by testing I was actually able to create two article marketing methodologies.

I created different tracking pages for different sets of article directories, and ranked each of these sets of article directories according to the amount of traffic they brought me. Using the process of elimination, I was able to quite quickly determine which web sites were good for generating direct traffic from my articles, and which web sites were best for creating long term inbound links. I have also used my tracking techniques to determine which article marketing submission and distribution services were most effective. This actually spurred me to drop some of the article submission and distribution services I was using at one time, in favor of doing more of the work myself, and outsourcing to an individual rather than a firm, the submission of my articles.

There are two primary tracking methods I employ, and I will attempt to go through these in as detailed a fashion as possible, as I personally believe this is one of the most important aspects of your web business.

You see, in most of the web marketing you do, you will find that on average, your long term results are not necessarily positive, in aggregate. But if you isolate the productive portions of your strategy, and drop the ones that are pulling you down, you can often create profits or results, even when initial results are ho-hum.

Here are the two article marketing methodologies:

1) Write lots of articles and submit to a short list of special article directories for immediate traffic

2) Write a small number of articles and submit to a long lost of various article directories for long term search engine traffic.

5 Killer Tips How To Optimize Your Home Internet Business Ideas - Site For Both Google And Yahoo

Despite of the fact that Google gets maybe 60 % of all searches, the challenge is: how to rank better with the same keyword at Yahoo, i.e. to kill two flies with one hit? Or is it possible?

The reason, why the results are different is, that these two engines, which gets around 70 % of all searches, follow their own rules, algorithms, when they put the sites in a certain order and when they will decide how many pages they will display on the search result pages.

Okay, I asked: what are the rules to get my keyword, home internet business ideas, to the third place at Yahoo too?

1. Google And Yahoo Think Differently?

This is natural, because they are competing services. We can think that they in a way complete each other by offering their own answers to the searches.

Google owns a PageRank - system patent, so other engines cannot use it and that is why they have developed their own algorithms. Generally speaking Google puts more emphasis on the quality backlinks especially from other related and high Google PR web sites. The more backlinks your site has, the better placement it will get for that particular keyword, in my case: home internet business ideas.

On the other hand Yahoo evaluates the url, meta tags and the keyword density as important optimization factors. Well, what a difference in algorithms: Google appreciates the web site popularity or connections with other related sites (off-page factors ) and Yahoo on-page factors. But if we want a high ranking in both engines, it is very easy.

2. The Url Must Include A Keyword.

To say it clearly, I will not change my url, because it works so well as a home internet business ideas brand. And it is pretty known on the market.

But the experts recommend that the url should include the related and generic keyword. Both engines see the keyword in the url to be important and Yahoo even as one of its main optimization factors.

The keyword rich url is important because some web sites put the domain as a backlink, so the keyword rich domain works as an anchor text, which is important especially for Google.

3. Put Keywords Into The Meta Tags And Into The Copy.

The meta tags are important in search engine optimization ( SEO ), despite of the fact that their importance is decreasing, but especially Yahoo appreciates them. Insert the keywords into the title, description, keyword tags and all over the copy.

4. The Keyword Density.

Every single home internet business marketer has a different opinion about the keyword density but I learnt from the experts, that the right density should be as high as 8 % but not over. The high density is important for Yahoo especially.

5. Use Sitemap On Your Home Page.

The sitemap is important for the search engine spiders, because it makes it easy to access all the important pages on your site. But it also serves the visitors, because now they see from one list if the site has topics which interest them.

Article Marketing - Why You Must Persevere With Article Marketing

One of the biggest complaints I get from people who have just started article marketing is that it is not working fast enough for them. You see, article marketing takes time. You cannot just write 10 or 20 articles and get response over night. What I have found is that an article produces over time month in and month out.

This is pretty important to recognize. You see, with article marketing, you are doing one or two things (or both): you are either writing a lot of articles and submitting them to a few high-traffic article directories, to generate immediate direct traffic, or you are writing a few articles and submitting them to a long list of article directories, building backlinks for high search engine rankings.

But in either case, your results will occur over time, over the course of months and years, not days and weeks. Sure, you may notice that your web site goes from a low pagerank to something higher, and often in a short period of time, but in most keyword markets you need multiple inbound links before you see huge levels of traffic to your web site, and that just doesnt happen overnight.

So you have to persevere.

You have to write a lot of articles, and submit them diligently, even before you begin to see results. I had about 200 articles online before I could claim quantifiable results but now, I am glad that I continued to submit articles, as I make a fulltime income doing just that.

Why Your Talents Alone Aren't Getting You Anywhere Online

The bottom line is that there are plenty of really talented people out there who will never be heard from because they dont understand even the most basic principles of marketing. Marketing isnt often taught in Fine Arts courses because the instructors, by nature, are better at teaching the craft than they are at marketing themselves in the craft. Most marketing experts havent fine tuned their artistic talents enough to have a product worth marketing.

So the good news is that it is easier for a talented artist to learn the principles of excellence in marketing ideas and services than it is for a marketing genius to develop the passion and skill sets needed to produce good and, sometimes, great art.

Your website looks good and is ready to be shown to the public but now youll have to begin your marketing phase.

The first thing youll want to do is start writing internet articlesfor free! They dont have to be long or profound, they just have to be written well, stay on subject, be controversial and have great titles that search engines will latch onto and deliver people into your funnel.

Go to http://ezinearticles.com, sign up for a free membership and start writing short articles about what youre interested in. Also, make sure the meta tags on each page of your website have 101 keywords and phrases to attract search engines. Also, make sure that you have a text table of contents on each page of your website as well as the cool flash buttons. Make sure every page has a title and that you register your site with http://dmoz.com.

Next, start a blog at http://blogger.com (its free) and start blogging about your subject and your art. Talk about which phases your are in certain projects and make sure to include plenty of juicy tips and advice for people interested in art (do you see that you are truly building your online brand into an expertise here?).

Next, go to http://aweber.com and sign up for a newsletter database subscription ($20 a month). Put forms and links on all of your websites and send an initial message to your warm e-mail market to join your subscription list. Send a weekly newsletter to your subscriberskeep them entertained and keep them interested and with patience and time your audience will grow into thousands. These thousands know tens of thousands and this circle of hundreds of thousands of possibilities will keep you working for the rest of your life if you choose to work that long.

Beyond this, there is pay-per-click advertising you search out proper keywords and buy time with them in certain search engines as well as affiliate programs where other people market your services for you and you give them a percentage of whatever business they bring. But lets focus on the cheaper foundation first.

This is a guaranteed method of success if you are willing to put the time into it and you must first decide whether you want to go all the way or not because success and happiness begin at the crown of the head where spirit meets mind meets body. Success or failure is a choice we make each moment and determine the nature of our experience of reality. I have been extremely impressed with your talent and with your professionalism in our exchanges so farI believe in you and in your future and I am willing to invest my time and limited resources (for now at least) into helping you achieve. But all that doesnt matter if you havent invested yourself and your success 100%.

There is no going back from here, my friend. Onward and upward!

SEO Ghostwriter Little Known Fact - Initial Article Directories Traffic Is Useless

Although most SEO ghostwriters don't know it, the truth is that most of the high initial traffic that comes from article directories will not generate revenue at your site and is useless in that respect. This is simply because this initial traffic will tend to mostly consist of regular visitors to that particular article directory, other article posters, webmasters and the curious rather than the targeted traffic you seek.

However this does not mean that this initial traffic is a complete waste of time. In fact it is critical to the success of you article marketing campaign and serves a different and even more important purpose. This is the traffic from mostly webmasters and site owners who you want to re-post your article at their sites with your resource box and links intact. This is the traffic that will usually end up re-posting your article at their sites or linking to it which will have a great impact on your future traffic because it will help determine your positioning with search engines for important keyword phrases.

This initial traffic will set the stage for the valuable traffic for sales and revenue, which will come a little later after your article has been indexed and positioned high in search engine rankings. SEO ghostwriters should think of this initial traffic in the same way a movie producer looks at their movie premier where they get the first reactions to their new release from people who will refer others and get the buzz going that will make it a box office hit. Assuming of course that it is a good movie.

Incidentally, the reason why most SEO ghostwriters are not effective is because they do not understand exactly how to go about using articles to generate tons of traffic for any site. (More SEO ghost writer tips) for lots of traffic.

To be successful you will need to discover the other ghostwriter little known fact. Or did you want to get an idea of the kind of impact an experienced seo ghostwriter can have on your traffic today?

Should You Hire an SEO Company to Promote Your Website?

Going for the gold...reaching for the summit...obtaining notoriety for your website is the goal of the seo company. There are distinct advantages in hiring a qualified seo specialist to perform for you the necessary elements in reaching for the grand prize of page 1 rank on Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

The obvious results are increased traffic to your website, branding of your url for search engine placement, giving people the idea that your site is at the top of the Google search for a reason. That reason being that you have the best information about the keyword category that they are searching for and possibly, they will come to your site and signup for the project that you are promoting.

Its really all about keywords, ad content and linking on the net. There are absolutely no magic buttons, even though some disreputable so-called gurus, may tell you that there are software programs that will do it all for you...but you need to fly right past that notion. There are NO programs that allow instantaneous success on the net. In order to become successful on the information highway you need to blend all the necessary ingredients together for the perfect seo campaign. It requires consistent and diligent work to obtain these positions.

The advantages of hiring a qualified and tested seo specialist to handle the promotion of your website are many...I will list a few below.

1. If you do not have the time to devote to your mlm project or service, then the hiring of the seo specialist will free up your time for other pursuits. Successfully promoting on the Internet does require time and effort. Unless you have the time to spend doing it, the money that you will pay for the seo's craft will be good money spent.

2. If you do not have a clue as to how the Internet actually works then hiring the seo master will be far better than buying ludicrous software programs that they claim will drive motivated visitors to your sites for only $297. Bottom line here...and take it from someone who knows...there are NO programs that will drive traffic. There are only time tested and proven strategies and Internet marketing techniques that do work. So, you will actually save money by hiring the expert rather than trying to do it all by yourself.

3. When the seo expert places your website on the top notch of a keyword category you will be putting your project, your goods, or your services in the best possible position for traffic and will ultimately make sales. There is one rule in marketing...NO TRAFFIC=NO SALES! If no one ever sees your site...and unless you have a top position on Google they probably will not...then you are dead in the water. The money that you invest in building your online business will be dollars well spent. No seo specialist will ever tell you that they will make sales for you. This is an unspoken law of seo promoters. There is absolutely no way that the seo specialist can guarantee sales for its clients. Its a false statement and if you are ever in contact with one of these pseudo-masters...you are urged to not become involved with them. They are out to steal your money.

4. The successful seo master can save you time and money by telling you the programs to become involved with...and those to stay away from. Any seo guru will be the best judge of programs (or should be) and he or she can ultimately save you money in the long haul by not becoming involved with certain programs.

All in all the ultimate goal of a successful Internet marketing campaign is to make sales. You know that a top spot on Google does not insure this success by any means. You get into an entirely different area in the content and appeal of your site...the different promotional elements of that site and other features that lead to success with a website.

Websites only need one thing to become successful. They need to offer the best information about the program promoted. The do not need fancy graphics and flash presentations. As a matter of fact, search engine spiders do not read graphics, so those may appeal the human eye, but are absolutely not necessary for promoting on the Internet.

You may have built what you think is the greatest website on the Internet, but unless someone sees that site...what are the chances that you will ever make money with that site? The answer would be almost zero.

Hiring a qualified and proven seo master will be the best money that you ever invest in your new online business.
